A Los Angeles-based libertarian think tank is urging San Francisco to expand its road system instead of focusing on mass transit to solve traffic congestion. A study by the Reason Foundation indicates that San Francisco’s roads will be as congested as Los Angeles by 2030 and recommends that the city add 2,261 miles of new lanes, according to the San Francisco Chronicle. A spokesman for the Metropolitan Transportation Commission says expanding roads may solve congestion but would also cause more smog and sprawl.
