Texas health board considers care for uninsured

Proposed legislation in Texas could increase the amount counties would have to pay for healthcare for the uninsured. About 5.6 million people in the state, or 25 percent of the population, don’t have health insurance, the highest percentage of uninsured people in any state, according to the Austin American-Statesman. A report from a state task force recommends several ways to address the problem, including making counties provide healthcare for people living at 100 percent of the federal poverty level — an annual income of $9,800 or less — not just those making 21 percent of that amount. http://www.statesman.com/news/content/news/stories/local/05/26codered.html
