Campaign delays New Orleans recovery, mayor claims

New Orleans Mayor Ray Nagin says he has had to postpone some parts of the city’s recovery from Hurricane Katrina while he campaigns for reelection, according to the New Orleans Times-Picayune. During a televised debate with his rival, Louisiana Lt. Gov. Mitch Landrieu, Nagin said he’s had to put off forming a financial-oversight structure and finding appointments for a national recovery committee because of the campaign. Landrieu said the campaign, while it may delay some parts of the recovery, shouldn’t affect things that don’t need money or approval from state or federal authorities, such as creating the financial-oversight structure. http://www.nola.com/news/t-p/frontpage/index.ssf?/base/news-5/1147672721244480.xml
