Debate rages on mayor’s plan to take over Los Angeles schools

Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa is on the road defending his plan for a “council of mayors” to take over the Los Angeles Unified School District. Villaraigosa’s opponents say the plan puts too much power in the mayor’s hands and that he isn’t qualified to run a school system, according to the Los Angeles Times. The mayor says he’s just trying to improve the system and that a schools superintendent will run the system, not the mayor’s council. http://www.latimes.com/news/local/la-me-mayor31may31,1,7830959.story?coll=la-headlines-california
