DHS cuts New York and Washington grants, sends more to Chicago and Los Angeles

Department of homeland security cuts grants

A decision by the Department of Homeland Security to cut some of its grants to major cities, like New York and Washington, has angered officials around the country. However, DHS says the cuts come after a review designed to make grant distribution more even, according to the Washington Post. Atlanta, Chicago and Los Angeles will receive more grant money from the Urban Areas Security Initiative, part of DHS’ $1.7 billion grant program. http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2006/05/31/AR2006053101364.html
