Documenting the changing urban landscape
City planning is not what it used to be. Environmental regulations, water and energy supplies, transportation needs and other considerations have significantly altered city landscapes over the last few decades.
In the fourth edition of "The Citizen's Guide to Planning," newly released by the Chicago-based American Planning Association, authors Christopher Duerksen, C. Gregory Dale and Donald Elliott of the national consulting firm Clarion Associates explain the land-use planning process from start to finish, the key players involved and the legal framework in which planning decisions are made.
Written for a general audience, the book traces the history of city planning in the United States and includes information about comprehensive plans, zoning actions and plan implementation. The 240-page paperback book is available through www.APAPlanningbooks.com for $24.95.
